My wife and I purchased a few acres along the river in southern NB, knowing we would like to build on it for retirement we decided we needed to look into flood mitigation as the yearly run off through the Saint John and Kennebecasis rivers floods the lower side of the property every year. With this in mind I asked for quotes from various contractors and landscape professionals along with talking to friends and quickly decided there had to be a more cost effective way to control erosion. My research lead me to Gabion Baskets and then to the online sales sites for the flat packed gabion kits.
After seeing the price of these flat packed Gabions and the labor required to put them together I devised a plan to build my own. After many hours and countless attempts I developed my gabions and as luck would have it that year the floods were disastrous in the south of the province. I decided to make them available to the folks in the area as the stories of astronomical repair bills were starting to mount up. My phone has not stopped ringing since that first ad on Kijiji and after 5 years of encouragement i have finally taken my wife's advice and formed RTU Gabions.
Perfect for the DIY, Gabions can be used in any application where you require strength and want to allow water to flow through.
Erosion crushing your neighbors garage? Gabions are cost effective and allow water pressure from the hill to escape through the gaps in the stone.
These are the standard Gabions we are producing all the time, The Flip Top baskets have a detached and clipped top which makes loading easier, we can also produce custom sizes and shapes depending on your needs. Feel free to send us a message or email if you need a custom basket.
Delivery within NB, NS or PEI available / Fees may apply

As the Gabions are fully completed and ready for stone shipping would be extremely expensive, we are willing to deliver at an extra charge however.
the standard gabions use 4'x4' mesh which means the stone on the outside edges of the gabion will need to be larger than 4" to avoid falling through. You can use any size inside of those stones, and many people use rubble (old brick etc) to fill the insides.
We strongly advise against dumping stone into a Gabion as this may deform the shape of the basket, it is acceptable only if you are willing to have the Gabions "pillow" out or bulge. The best practice is to place stone into the Gabions to fill them and to use front to back tie wires to ensure the basket stays square, this provides the best result in a finished project.
