My wife and I purchased a few acres along the river in southern NB, knowing we would like to build on it for retirement. We decided to look into flood mitigation because the yearly runoff through the Saint John and Kennebecasis rivers floods the lower side of our property every year. With this in mind, I asked for quotes from various contractors and landscape professionals, and after talking to friends, I quickly realized there had to be a more cost-effective way to control erosion. My research led me to gabion baskets in Canada and then to online sales sites for flat-packed gabion kits.
After seeing the price of these flat-packed gabions and the labor required to assemble them, I devised a plan to build my own. After many hours and countless attempts, I developed my gabions. As luck would have it, that year the floods were disastrous in the south of the province. I decided to make my gabion products available to folks in the area, as stories of astronomical repair bills were starting to mount up. My phone has not stopped ringing since that first ad on Kijiji. After 5 years of encouragement, I have finally taken my wife's advice and formed RTU Gabions, a proud provider of gabion solutions across Canada.
